The Green Ash is a tall tree (80 feet) and has a bole diameter of three feet. The trunk has tight bark with closely knit furrows. Leaves are up to one foot long and hairless and green on top and underneath. They are slightly toothed and have short stalks. The twigs are hairless and have short brown pointy buds. The seed pods are plump and wedge-shaped singlet wings with no base wings and are about seven inches long. Flowers are small and green-to-purple and hang in dense clusters from leaf scars.

The growing region is from Texas to Nova Scotia. Ash is a hardwood tree which provides ornamental value to many homes and city residences. The wood is used for furniture, baseball bats and baskets and as fuel for wood stoves. The bark and seed pods are used as a food supply by deer, porcupine and birds.
